History

The name of the award comes from the historical foursome that sits aloft the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. According to the original myth, the Goddess is ascending on the city to bring peace and prosperity. Friendship, harmony, state wisdom and bravery precede her. Flourishing state, economy, art and science follow these virtues.

At the end of the Cold War, this philosophy of cooperative power experienced a Renaissance. The desire for freedom, the moral courage of the civil movement and the cooperation of the four powers brought about the changes experienced in 1989/1990. The Quadriga is a symbol for unity and transformation.
